PSI SwissFEL FacilityThe PSI XFEL is intended as a free-electron laser user-facility for the wavelength range from 7 nm (0.17 keV) to 0.1 nm (12.4 keV). The figure below shows a schematic layout of the facility. The main accelerator provides an energy up to 6 GeV and feeds three FEL branches:
Details are presented in the table below. The branches can operate independent from each other, in a way where the beam from the linac is multiplexed to the individual lines. Each branch is equiped with three end-stations. The FEL beam may be directed to any of the stations. The different end-stations may be used to serve different types of experiments, or provide the possibility to build-up an experiment in parallel with an ongoing experiment. The repetition rate of the accelerator will be 100 Hz.
Target Specifications
Facility DiscriptionThe total length of the facility is 950 m. The figure below represent a case-study for a possible location of the facility. The shown solution goes parallel to the West bank of the Aare river. The electron source is located North of the PSI area and the user-hall further south, next to the SLS. Both the linac and the undulator branches are built below the surface in a tunnel. |
